Last Night A DJ Saved My Life…

So if you’re an Aucklander you may have already heard about this… Chicago Disco and Hit It & Quit It are joining promotional and party forces to bring you: LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE with famed author and DJ BILL BREWSTER!

At INK BAR Saturday night 26th May!
With support from:
*** Recloose
*** DJ Philippa
*** Frank Booker

We are delighted to announce that this month an absolute legend in the world of dance music is heading to Australia & New Zealand for his first ever Antipodean tour.  Bill Brewster is interesting not only because of what he does on the decks, but because he has played a massive part in defining dance music via his books and journalistic endeavours.

Bill began DJing in 1986. He was a founding resident of seminal London club FABRIC, going on to play weekly for 6 years. A musically diverse DJ, one week he would come on after Sasha in the main room to finish the night, the next he would be sparring with Leo Zero in Room 3 playing mental disco records and Balearic biscuits.

His books ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ and ‘The Record Players – DJ Revolutionaries’ have helped to define dance music culture, the industry that surrounds it and the main figureheads who have helped to shape into the force that it is today.

For this tour Bill has been scouring through his massive record collection to bring a mix of definitive classics that will sit alongside up to the moment bombs to get the dance floor pumping.
“I’m psyched about coming to Australia and New Zealand not least because I’ve heard it’s warmer than Grimsby. I’ve been furiously digging out some forgotten gems in my records room for the trip and I’m looking forward to busting some of them out, so hold on to your corsets”.

Bill is happily hanging out in Auckland for a few weeks, and will be presenting a seminar at the Red Bull Studio on the Friday evening before the Ink Bar party… Flyer for the seminar below. Listen out for interviews with this esteemed gentleman on Radio New Zealand Saturday morning the 26th of May (with Kim Hill) and George FM in the weeks leading up to the gig and seminar – via Recloose’s Hit It & Quit It show!

Massive thanks to Skyy Vodka, George FM, Red Bull Studio, The Quadrant Hotel and British Council for the love and support.

Three songs for Monday night…

I used to play the track this vocal originally came out on over 10 yrs ago MD X-Spress “God Made Me Phunky”…  I loved it then.  and I love this modern down and dirty adaptation now..

oh and this…..

Greg Wilson in Auckland

Tonight at Conch Records on Ponsonby Road AKL, the one and only Greg Wilson will be popping in for a cuppa tea and a bit of a natter.  This is a rare opportunity for Auckland disco lovers to have a chat / Q & A session with someone who was here ‘back then’..  how intriguing!

Greg Wilson is the real deal. He’s been at the epicentre of the most important musical movements of the past 30 years, from electro to house, hip hop to the wildly successful disco revival and re-edit explosion.  He was the first DJ to mix live on British TV and the first dance music DJ hired for a weekly residency at Manchester’s seminal Hacienda club. He even taught a young Fatboy Slim how to scratch.

Greg Wilson is also going to be playing his tape reels and disco edits at the Nathan Club on Friday night.  Wa-hey!  Check  out the event page on Mukuna: http://www.mukuna.co.nz/auckland/central/gig60079.htm

And see ya there x

Soundcloud isms

Hey lovely people,

I’m currently hanging out in Wellington.  When here I stay with my sister out in Island Bay, and go running around the bay… The water today is a deep royal blue – it’s gorgeous.

I have decided to share some new(ish) mixes and production work via my Soundcloud page: The Chicago Disco Summer Tour mix, and a disco mix I did mid last year called We Don’t Speak French..  as well as that there’s a new track “10 Fifteen Saturday Night”..  newish. wrote it last year.

Enjoy x

song for now..

It’s always seemed to me that the best music is equal parts sad and happy.  I love this.. on high rotation right now.

on high rotation right now…

F@#$ yes :)

Well hello there summer…

Not that it feels summery in Auckland this week.. it’s blustery, wet and cold outside.  In fact I’m sitting here in trackies normally reserved for winter, waiting on a coffee as I tuck into a night of promo work and music research.

The promo work is for the upcoming Chicago Disco summer tour…  details of which are below.

The research is for a multitude of things…  BODY ROCKIN – my radio show on George FM tomorrow, a mix CD I’m putting together to give away on the upcoming already mentioned tour, and the multitude of  bad ass gigs coming my way over summer.  Plenty bad ass gigs…  feeling super amped on the upcoming party season – a notable highlight of course being Rhythm and Vines… If you’re not from New Zealand and wonder what I’m talking about – head here —>   http://rhythmandvines.co.nz

Keep an ear to the ground where ever you are over the summer as I may be heading into town.  See ya on the D Floor x
